Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

All the reviews of this place crack me up. You poor, pitiful ITP yelpers, having to make the trek to Johns Creek for good pizza. Like Johns Creek is in the boonies or something, with the cow pastures and stuff. Have you seen the demographics of this place? It is nothing but displaced yankees who were forced to relocate here for their executive jobs, living in eight bedroom homes in the country clubs. Comes as no surprise that you'll find some delicious eats up this way. But I digress... The cat is out of the bag about Verra Zanno. We came for lunch today and they were full at slightly before noon. We sat at the bar and watched while the pizzas came out of the oven. Just amazing stuff. Quality ingredients and attention to detail that you don't find elsewhere. I went with the lunch special stromboli. I don't often order these, so I don't have a lot to compare it to. But it was tasty and lacked the grease I'm used to. The pizza looks amazing. I regret not ordering a slice or two. I'll hold off on declaring this place the best until I can try an entire pie. But I think it is safe to say VZ ranks among the best around.

God bless you, my fellow Yelp comrades who gave this place high reviews and tipped me off to its very existence. As I've mentioned in previous reviews, I am new to Georgia, having spent the last 12+ years in Chicago. Being from Chicago, one would assume I like the deep dish pies the Windy City is famous for, but truth be told, I don't care for Chicago style pizzas. They are too heavy on the bread and cheese and not enough on the sauce and toppings. One slice and you're ready to call it a night. Therefore, I am a huge fan of New York style pizza. It's floppy, doughy, drenched in sauce and covered in gooey cheese and delicious toppings in all the right ratios. That's the kind of pizza pie I literally crave and dream about. Unfortunately, ever since we moved here, I have not found a really good NY-style pizza place that satisfies my caveman-like urge for amazingly delicious pizza. We stumbled upon Mellow Mushroom, and while they have great quality and a funky theme, their kind of pizza just doesn't hit that sweet spot for me. I continued my quest for a great pizza and was not satisfied with anything we tried until tonight. I fell in love with Verra-Zanno the minute I walked into the lobby and the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked pizzas filled my lungs. I looked around and saw an establishment that was full of happy and smiling customers. Several of whom commented on how adorable they thought my 1-year old son was. I looked over at the manager and he gave me a warm, genuine smile as I approached the to-go counter. I gave him my name while the cashier took my credit card. For just $23, I got a 14" bacon and pineapple and a 10" crumbled sausage and blanched mushroom. V-Z is a little bit of a hike from my house and the pizza smelled so good that I had to fight the urge to eat a slice all the way home. When we finally ate the pizza, we savored every bite, closing our eyes and making sounds that may have resembled something from the bedroom and not the kitchen, but we couldn't help it. This pizza is simply that good. After this long of a pizza drought, we were in a state of bliss. The ingredients were all very fresh and full of flavor. The crust was that perfect thickness of thin, but just enough to support itself without being crunchy. The sauce was tangy without being overpowering (although next time, I will order a cup of it for dipping my crusts into), the cheese was creamy and delicious and the meat toppings were all Boar's Head brand (which you can't really do better than that). I cannot wait to come back and try some of their pastas, chicken parmigiana and other pizzas.

Great find. Ate here tonight with the family and could not have been more pleased. Salads were fresh, bread was amazing and our dishes were delicious. Had the eggplant parmigiana and the chicken parmigiana. What I loved about our entrees were that they were not overloaded with breading as if to mask a flavor. They were light and so tasteful. Waitress was so attentive and nice. We had some leftovers and she wrote on the box what was inside and the date. Nice extra touch. Will definitely become a regular spot for our family!

I am not big on pizza but I am hooked on this! I always get takeout: A large cheese and sliced sausage, and an antipasto salad. Can't go wrong!

The closest Italian salad (to the one I had in Lake Como and Naples) I had in the States.

I am in the area frequently for work and have friends and colleagues who have raved about Verra-Zanno as one of the best in the Atlanta area. I am notoriously selective about pizza and would rather not eat it than eat the crap that passes for pizza at most Atlanta restaurants. I like a thin, but not crackery crust, good char, fresh (not sweet) sauce and high quality toppings. From all I had heard, Verra-Zanno should have been my kind of place. A few weeks ago, I stopped in for dinner while nearby. I ordered a small Caesar salad and 2 slices (was starving). Now, I love a good Caesar salad - especially a "real" one with the anchovy, coddled egg, etc though the Cardinis dressing in a bottle can be OK too. I don't know what this was that Verra-Zanno served but it bordered on inedible. So sour/vinegary I cannot even describe it. And it was drenched in this awful dressing. OK, I came for the pizza not salad, so move on. The pizza was, well, just not good. It didn't taste fresh - almost as if it had been reheated many, many times then sat a while again before being served. The toppings seemed tossed on as the waitress was walking to the table. The slices were above room temperature but more lukewarm than hot. Some friends I have told about my experience have suggested that the entire pies are better since often cheese pizzas are cooked then toppings added for individual slice orders but I think that is a load of crap. I dont know if Verra-Zanno works that way or not, but why serve sub-par product to someone ordering slices vs someone ordering an entire pie? At any great NY or Chicago (south side) place the slices are as good as a whole pie. My waitress was maybe 17 and training another 17 year old. When they saw I had barely eaten any salad and had only a few bites gone from each slice they were dumbstruck and just stared with mouths agape. No questions, no comments, just air-head stares. I just paid and left. Maybe it was an off night? (the place was packed though). With all the great reviews I am willing to give it another chance, but fear it is just another in a long line of disappointing pizza wanna-be's that Atlanta has far too many of.
(2)Jeff J.
This is my standing favorite pizza spot in Atlanta. The quality of the pizza is arguably the best in the city. This is a bold statement. However, the quility and consitency of the pizza and pasta dish's keep me coming back again and again. To give a pizza spot 5 stars is a remarkable accomplishment and does not happen often. My only regret is that Verra-Zano does not have a location on Windward Parkway as I am convinced that it would do well. Again, if you are looking for an excellent pizza, go all the way and load up on the toppings.
(5)Scott B.
Joe has been serving up solid NY pizza and Italian food since his Big Daddy's days in Duluth. Good stuff, good prices.
(5)Gina C.
Love this place for good pizza! Good bye Mellow Mushroom, Dominos, and Pizza Hut! Hello Verra Zanno! I had the Greek Salad. Just your average Greek Salad. Nothing to rant and rave about. However, the pizza is a different story. It is delicious! We ordered the Deluxe Combo 14". It had 6 slices of pizza. The toppings included pepperoni, sausage, onions, and green onions. I'm not a big crust eater and the crust was thin and perfect. We sat outside and the service was excellent. Our waitress was so friendly. I love how this place is so close to my house. The only thing is that there are kids everywhere! I guess that's what I get for living out in the burbs. I need to move...

After reading Stacy G's review, I decided that we should investigate this place's pizzerial (word?) skills. Ann and I ordered a medium pie for lunch with ham, black olives, mushrooms, and tomatoes (out of artichokes-wah!), plus beverages. I considered the two slice lunch specials, but did the math with toppings, and old people come out way ahead with an 8 slice medium to have take home 'za from. The pie was very appealing in its presentation, with ingredients and sauce evenly and artistically distributed. It was what I consider to be a 'traditional' pie with a medium crust thickness and moderate heel size. The sauce was more acidic than most I've had, but palate refreshing nonetheless. Not soggy toward the middle, enough char and crispness to keep the slice from folding when taking it up to eat by hand. I would've liked my tomatoes sliced instead of diced, but they were fresh, so very little damage done. Two slices each did it for us, and we carried the other 4 home for further delectation. We'll be back for more! Thanks, Stacy!
(4)Cliff D.
I am partial to the Calzones and Stromboli but you have to try the Grilled Chicken Salad. I know this is a pizza place but you can learn all about the pizza from the New Yorkers. Don't be afraid to try any of the salads or sandwiches here along with the pizza. This is definitely the best pizza place in Johns Creek.
(4)Nancy R.
I see this place crowded all the time, but I don't know why. When I came back a 2nd time, I got something other than pizza. FOOD: The first time, I got 2 pepperoni slices, garden salad, and a drink. The pizza was ok...nothing to write home about. Talk about small pepperonis and tough crust. The salad was plain too. I guess people come here for things other than pizza. My second visit, I got the Stromboli (filled with pepperoni and mushrooms) and it was very good. The tomato sauce was very fresh. The Stromboli was too big to finish so I get to have it for lunch again tomorrow.

Pretty good pizza for the burbs. Additionally, considering that this is one of the suburbs I am considering planting some serious roots in, in say 2-3 years I will add Verra-Zanno to Stoney River as solid dining options in this vacinity. We had a medium Deluxe combo pizza. This place does a rendition of NY Style pizza. As mentioned in previous reviews I am a Lombardis/Joes/Patsys man up in NY. Given those credentials it should be noted that i have a pretty strict standard for crust. I like more char, a little thinner and bit more flavor then what Verra-Zanno's offers. The cheese was also not the thick Mozzarella I expect from true contenders. Enough with the short comings. The toppings were all very good, fresh and plentiful. The sauce had a very nice zest. To augment the medium pizza we had the Vodka Penne pasta and that was a very nice sized portion and was very good. The Minestrone soup that accompanied the pasta was also top-notch. Immediately when laking in you can see that this place is clean. I was further impressed when I came into the Mens Room and saw automated drip fresheners in the stall. When paying I noticed that they received two back to back 100 point health scores. I have never seen that before, so I must give kudos to them. the food is like 3 1/2 stars. Service, value, cleanliness, and a nice variety of drink specials bump this joint up to 4 stars. I will be back sometime in the next year.
(4)Michael D.
Been there, done that...was not impressed. But of course, your mileage may vary!
(2)Annie L.
The pizza was fantastic. Yummy chewy crust, with that crispyness to it. Luckily I went with my bestie's family, because I got to try 3 different types of pizzas. There was the ricotta and basil pizza, the hawaiian pizza, and another random pizza we made up (green peppers, mushrooms, and sliced italian sausages). The appetizers were also delicious. It's really all about the DOUGH. We got the cheesy bread and the bruschetta...melt in my mouth goodness. I really, really like this place. The wine list isn't extensive (merlot, pino grigio, cabernet, etc) but a glass of merlot is good enough for me :)
(4)Phil D.
My son and I tried a small pizza, a calzone and chicken parm dinner between us and all were excellent. The parm came with a salad and a side of pasta which were both above average. The portion were of a good size and we boxed up some of the pizza and calzone.

I rarely have a craving for pizza but it had been on my mind lately and I had heard this place was good.. I had a lot of baking to do for the night so my mom ordered some slices for take-out and brought them home.. I created my own slice with sliced italian sausage, fresh basil, and onions. It was pretty good but nothing mind-blowing. But I love thin crust pizza and especially NY style, and this was pretty good in that department. However, it wasn't so good I'd choose to go here again. I'd probably want to try Antico first and see how it holds up to this (and according to many Yelpers, it's better!)

Great Stromboli and Pizza Roll (my Yelp rating is for the food). Bad service with too much attitude. I don't give business to someone that doesn't want it. We won't be back. First the whole drama over not giving a booth to a party of 3. It was 6:00 on a Monday and there were three booths available. Maybe they were waiting for an unexpected Monday night rush. But, this didn't upset me, it was just irritating. So they sit us at a table that can fit 6 people. The table was totally square making it impossible for me it reach my daughter and wife on the other side of the table. So I just moved to the side of the table so I could be able to interact with my daughter. One minute later the server comes over to lecture me about being in the isle. I told her the table was too wide for me to reach across to my daughter and asked for a skinnier table but she said "that was all they had". They had skinnier tables available or else I wouldn't have asked but, I did not object to her unwillingness to move us...I just kept sitting at the side of the table. The issue that ticked me off though was when we ordered, we asked that our daughters cheese pizza SLICE be delivered as soon as it was done without waiting for our Stromboli and Pizza roll. Our server gladly agreed to comply. We expected the pizza slice pretty quickly since the server emphasized how quickly they could deliver a second pizza slice if one slice was not enough for my daughter. Eventually, out comes the Stromboli and Pizza roll with NO pizza slice....unbelievable. When the pizza slice was finally delivered I laughed and asked if the kitchen missed the message about sending my daughter's pizza slice first. The server brought her attitude again and claimed they sent the pizza slice as soon as it was done ( I would have been happy with a simple apology). I assured her that the Stromboli and Pizza roll did not take longer to cook than the pizza slice. Anyway, I won't put up with that much unapologetic attitude. There are too many other good places I can spend my money to eat.
(4)Ron M.
Warm and friendly. Continuously rotating servers. Megan was very sweet. We've been here for the pizza, which I think I'd rather better than their pasta dishes. But all good for basic Italian neighborhood place. They have the good taste to NOT have the blaring sports television!
(4)Amy C.
So excited to have finally found decent pizza place OTP! Solid pizza and the meatballs are legit. Haven't tried much else but I look forward to it in the future. It can get very busy on a Friday night, but the service is always efficient and pleasant.
(5)David S.
Both the pizza and the garlic knots are very good here, but I do agree with other reviewers that the pizza crust could use a bit more char. But the best thing about Verra-Zannos for me is that my pie comes out perfectly cooked on every visit. The crust is always perfectly done and the pies are always delish. I wish I could speak to the rest of the menu, but the pizza is so good I haven't ever ordered anything else. The only con is that the wide tables are great for giving you room to eat when you order a large pie, but not so good for families with kids. I was also disappointed to see they recently dropped the MyFavEats loyalty program.
(4)Mickey D.
Come here all the time with my family! We're all italian and this is good italian food for around here! Great service as well!
(5)Sonni W.
So this Brooklyn-nite sat down VERY skeptical. Wondering, is this yet another place with a mediocre pizza pie? My brother has been here before and tells me wait for it, just wait for it. The pie arrives, the look, the aroma, the feel, the taste, OMG THE TASTE!!! Finally a true authentic BK-NY style pizza! Finally a restaurant that does it right. I literally applauded. I can't wait to go back and try their Sicilian pizza and their Stromboli.
(4)Joanna R.
We ordered take out from here on one of those weeknights we were just not about cooking. Meatballs and a lasagna (have yet to try their pizza). Meatballs were excellent and the lasagna was simply good. I think it possibly needed more ricotta and less salt. Nothing that screams GTF in my belly but we liked it, we recommend it, and I will try this place again.
(4)Chevaschan K.
Anyone craving a NY thin crispy monster pizza?? Slices are $2.60 each and yummyy Going to try the calzone next time
(4)C M.
We really enjoy the pizza here ! My only complaint, and it is really a "suggestion"....... We've lived here in Johns Creek for 6 years and for the first 3 years we never knew the restaurant existed. From the outside, you would never know there was a restaurant there.....no lights on the outside.....no lights on the outdoor patio.....you cant see inside lights from the outside........ We only discovered it when Lenny's Subs opened up and we noticed it was really "OPEN"..... Food is really good..... Also, the tables are huge...I realize it is for the pizza to sit in the middle of the table but I feel weird with my husband so far away from me when we eat...ha, ha!
(4)Kathy B.
They say they are a New York pizzeria-- not even close I ordered a chicken parmigiana hero but don't toast the bread- so I went to pick it up they told me they did it now but if I ordered it when they were busy they couldn't make it like that -- I said fine next time I'll go to Carmine's -- that's the last time I'll go there
(1)Jina H.
There are a lot of pizza restaurants around but it was hard finding a good one. So when we found this place we were hooked. It's a family favorite. We usually get their pizza and the Greek salad but hear great things about the other items on their menu.
(4)Kenny C.
We walked in and there was no one at the door to guide us on our next move. Do we stand in line at the counter and order? Do we seat ourselves? Do we wait to be seated? Who knows, not me. So I asked a server who was walking by "Do we order here and then sit down, or do we sit down first and then order?" This seemed to confuse him, he looked like he was still in high school, so I asked a slightly different question hoping he could understand our dilemma... "Do we seat ourselves or does someone like you take us to our seats?" "Someone takes you" he said "But there are no open tables". I was looking right at an empty booth and said "Can we have that booth?" and he said "We like to save the booths for larger parties." Ok, kind of annoying but it was a 6 person booth and we only had two in our party. So the waiter sat us at the bar. We sat there for a few minutes with no menus or place settings, and what looked like a few of high school kids hustling back and forth trying to keep up with the traffic. There were no true adults around at all, this place on a busy Saturday night was run by a few kids. Finally someone asked us what we wanted to drink and we still didn't have menus. Eventually we got menus and ordered, the food was better than the staff. I didn't love the pizza, it was lacking in cheese. But the salad and calzone were loaded with cheese. If I had any advice for this place it would be to hire some adults, they have more than enough patrons to support it. The place was busy all night. Also, put some more cheese on your pizzas! C'mon, you aren't holding back in your calzone, man up and give me some more pizza cheese. 3 stars because the food was not bad, but almost 2 stars based on the service.
(3)Toni W.
We made a drive out to this spot when it was recommended by a food blogger that I enjoy following. It was crowded, but not packed on a Friday night. It was very kid-friendly - lots of well behaved children and families enjoying their pizza. The restaurant had a curved bar, where you could sit and watch your pie being crafted, as well as large tables to accommodate big pizzas without the table getting crowded (but also made me feel like I was sitting a bit far away from my family). Service was excellent - cheerful, attentive, with good suggestions. We started with pizza knots, which arrived quickly, covered in butter and parmesan. My husband tried the San Gennaro pizza, and I tried the eggplant parmesan baked hero. Our toddler had penne pasta with butter. Our food was good - the pizza was probably the best dish of the night. The portions were very large - we took half our meal home. In fact, I just enjoyed some pizza for breakfast!
(3)Macy C.
I love this restaurant! The pizza reminds me of the the pizzas in NY. Very good customer service. Food is always fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant.
(5)Marcus O.
By now, you probably already know the pizzas are great. It's New York style so think chewy and crispy. Pretty darn good. I would say that one thing you should try is the Caprese salad. Uncommonly, they put capers with theirs which gives it a nice touch. Their menu is extensive with a good number of options for pasta. Must definitely go back and try that.
(4)Sylvia A.
Out-of town, had the roasted chicken & garlic pasta. Was absolutely amazing! Returned the next night for the same meal. My picky kids loved it too!
(5)Christy M.
A few years ago, when I worked in Duluth, my co-workers and I would drive over to Verra-Zanno for lunch on special occasions. I was in the area last week and decided to stop in with my little sis for dinner and see if it was as good as I remembered. We started with salads, a Caesar for her and a Greek for me. I thought my salad was excellent, with generous servings of all the bits that make Greek salad delightful: olives, feta, pepperonicinis, and croutons. The dressing was terrific, and they weren't too heavy-handed with it. I followed the salad with a plate of eggplant parmesan (because I can't resist eggplant dishes), which was just perfect and came with a small side of spaghetti and red sauce. She had two slices of cheese pizza, which were enormous and looked great. The serving of my eggplant parm was just exactly what you want eggplant parm to be: not greasy, cheesy but not too cheesy, and a nice balance of herbs to round it out. After the big salad, I had plenty of eggplant to take home, too, making a very generous lunch the next day. My sis said her pizza was just right, with a nice chewy crust that was substantial enough to support the cheese, but not too thick. All in all, a solid meal. I wouldn't necessarily drive all the way to Duluth for it, but if you're in the neighborhood and want some traditional red-sauce-Italian or pizza, do stop in. The service was also terrific: despite the fact that the two of us stayed in a booth for two hours, our service stayed attentive and kept our glasses filled.
(4)Deena B.
The food is delicious here. We wish they would renovate the dining room, but other than that you will enjoy delicious food at reasonable prices.
(4)Sher O.
From the spaghetti and meatballs to the sausage roll/stromboli their food is good, the service can be hit or miss but overall it's a place we'd tell friends about.. it's local to us which makes it somewhere we make a go to. Weekend tend to be quite busy, during the week is typically good. We noticed they do trivia on Wed nights so we've not went went on that night. DOWN SIDE = pretty large down side if you are a mom with a smaller child. There is NO changing table. The sink is tiny as well. So I was forced to go to the car and change our child, mind you its 25 degrees out side so changing not only a diaper but a whole outfit out in the cold was highly frustrating.( Not to mention when I went to use the restroom myself one stall lock was broken and unusable the other barely making it.) I would just think for such a seemingly family restaurant they would these things and correct anything that needed to be fixed. Bummer to me.
(4)Jennifer L.
I had pasta, salad and cheese bread. It wasn't terrible but it was very clear that they use some of the cheapest forms of ingredients that could be found. It was kind of like the McDonald's of pizza joints. I haven't had their pizza but if they use the same cheese on it as they did on the cheesy bread I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy it either. Also I'm pretty sure they use Prego sauce and cook their pasta in warm water for 45 mins. If you're looking for fresh Italian taste don't bother coming here.
(2)Jeff W.
Great food, friendly service. All with a very loyal customer base. Pricier than typical Italian/pizza fare, but it is because they use Boar's Head meats and fresh veggies. All pasta and dough is freshly made.
(5)Susan S.
You have to try VerraZanno. The sauces makes the Pizza! We drive the extra mile to get great food, friendly service and relaxing environment. You will not be disappointed. Cheers !
(3)Marybeth R.
By far the best pizza in the area!! We moved here from Connecticut three years ago and have tried many pizza places and none of them come close to home except this place. Delicious pizza, cooked correctly. Right amount of cheese and sauce. Greek salad is awesome. Staff and service are always on point.
(5)William K.
I've been a fan of Verrra-Zanna since is was tucked away under the name Big Daddy years ago down the street in Duluth. I knew Joe would be a success when he offered more dining space and the current Johns Creek location is better than imagined. Large tables and counter seating in a nice upscale but casual dinning room. And of course real New York style pizza with other great Italian dishes... Joe once told me he considered himself a baker and he is true to the New York pizzeria tradition,
(5)Angela S.
Love this place! We eat here at least once a month. The garlic knots are great and the salads and pizzas are delicious. My boys prefer this pizza over chain places. The sandwiches and pasta dishes are great options as well. The staff is friendly and the place does get packed Friday and Saturday nights. We are never disappointed when we eat here!
(5)Tavis W.
I was not greeted when I arrived. A young lady looked at me a couple times and never spoke. I stood by the register and waited. After a couple minutes she came to the register, looked at me as if I was a bother then abruptly asked if "IT" was for here or to go?! I responded here and she said sit anywhere. Then a bright young energetic friendly yet nervous young man approached me. This was obviously his first day at work and he did exceptionally well. I watched him basically run from table to table checking to make sure every glass was filled and everyone was happy. I was impressed with his effort, attitude and performance. However................... I ordered spaghetti and meatballs with meat sauce instead of marinara sauce. I was served a cold roll with 2 frozen solid butter packets. I received a house salad with tasteless house Italian dressing - not sure how that could happen?? Then my spaghetti arrived with no meatballs?!?! I looked and there was some meat but the sauce looked watery. So I tasted it and it was marinara sauce and not spaghetti meat sauce! My eager waiter apologized, promised me he entered it right and would take care of it! He almost ran to take my plate to the evil rude unhappy lady I mentioned earlier. I heard her say they chopped my meatballs up to make the meat sauce. The freshman waiter returned and said they chopped up your meatballs. I said lets look and I took the fork and went through the plate and said where is there enough meat to make even one meatball. I could see on the kids face he was about to have a panic attack so I pushed the plate away, said here is a $5.00 tip, put it on the table for him and left. As I walked by the hateful rude unhappy lady I looked directly at her expecting an apology, a comment or even a fake smile and nod. What I got was the same bitter unhappy rude bothered glare that I got when I arrived. I can promise two things: 1) I will never ever eat here again! 2) I will drive the extra mile and go to Ippolito's Italian Restaurant next time as I NEVER EVER have a problem there!! Plus their rolls are hot, fresh and their Chicken Parmesan is excellent!!
(1)Meagan G.
Consistency is key. I've been here 3-4 times a year for the last 3 years and it's always awesome! Service is fast, food is good and it's clean. Great take out too. Greek salad and pizza knots my favorites.
(5)Ashbeezy B.
I love this place! The pizza reminds me of pizza when I was a kid in the Bronx. Any New Yorker will appreciate this spot. The slices are thin & foldable. A lot of pizza places use a lot of dough. This place is nothing like that. They stay true to their Italian roots.
(5)Shawnie M.
This place is great ! Didn't realize you could specify how you wanted the crust on your pizza cooked. Had a large pizza with crust done dark and extra sauce. Was in the mood for something simple ordered extra cheese, for my husband, oregano and pepperoni. It was great! We also shared a Greek salad which had nice big chunks of feta cheese. Great comfort food on a chilly rainy night. Server was a nice kid, very entertaining.
(4)Aiswarya C.
Discovering this place was blessing to my pizza taste buds. Amazing pizza. They serve lunch combos with Caesar salad which is really nice. They best part is they serve pizza by slice too. They have Stromboli also. That's next on my list.

This review is purely on their service. Walked in on a slow Wednesday evening and asked to be seated at the empty booths. We were a party of two and there was another party of two sitting at the booths but we were told the booths were reserved for bigger parties. We asked the waiter if he was serious and he said yes. We came here for the first time to try this place out because they had good ratings but I don't think I have to eat here- I'll just go find another pizza place.

Let's see, I really don't know where to start. Service was total inadequate, my salad, Caesar, was a joke. The bread was good but when we wanted more it cost us a $1.00 for two "loafs" and a loaf is nothing more than a dinner roll. Now to be fair, I've been writing this as dinner happened so now for the good news, the entrees were WONDERFUL. Our service even got better. My Pasta Arribriata was wonderful, spicy, flavorful and delicious. Fix the front of the evening and I'd give it 5 stars. Tonight it gets a 4.

We've been here twice now in the past couple of weeks and the only thing I wish they had was a TV. The pizza, Greek salad and stromboli are all very tasty, but the pizza knots are to die for. Atkins would be proud. It's definitely more of a 'pizza place' than 'casual Italian'. And close.
(4)D B.
Being from NYC this has been the closest pizza has been like from back in the city. The menu they offer is a broad selection of pastas - all of them pretty good - their sauce is what makes them stand out. Make sure you try the deserts - the cannoli are to die for!

Really great pizza. Went there for the first time today, my wife and I split a greek salad and 12" Meat Deluxe pizza. The salad was great, just the right amount of dressing and very fresh tomatoes, onions, garbanzos and pepperoncinis. The pizza was very good. Fresh made dough (we watched them roll it) made for a very crispy crust with just the right amount of sauce and fresh meat toppings. Will definitely be back here often!
(5)Robert M.
Finally hit this place on a good day. Crust had good chew, good balance of sauce/cheese (which is Grande)...sauce was pretty good, cheese had good pull. Overall good flavor which puts it in my top 10 for now. Toppings in this place are quality. Definitely one of the better NY styles I've had in Atlanta. Welcome to Yelp...the new Citisearch!
(3)Elen E.
I've been looking for a good pizza place for a while. I am not even a pizza person, but once in a while everyone is in a pizza mood and you don't want to feel like you just ate a brick. We decided to try them out because of the reviews on yelp and it was a success. If you want a great tasting pizza in JC, go to Verra-Zanno. Appetizer recommendations: garlic cheese bread and capriccio. Favorite pizza: Greek and build your own.
(5)Shelly H.
Great salad and pizza! Friendly folks. Will be back!
(5)Bob S.
The pizza is great. love the sauce. Also a very good eggplant parm. Always good service and the owner is alway there. Been a customer for about 7 years never had a bad meal. Best pizza in Atlanta
(5)brad p.
The best pizza in town. Love the sauce (kinda a sweet tomato sauce) This might be the only pizza in town that get better and better everytime I eat there. Love the meatball with peppers and onion pizza. Also, love the eggplant parm. Just tried the Greek pizza WOW!. They are alway busy there and great service. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars!!!!
(5)Russ M.
The pizza, stromboli, and Greek salads are all incredible. I haven't ventured into other areas of their substantial menu options, but friends have reported that the lasagna, heroes, and other sandwiches are equally excellent. They offer a ton of different toppings for individual pizza slices, and everything is fresh and delivered by friendly, attentive staff.
(4)Mark M.
Great Pizza! Great Subs! Great everything! Joe used to own Big Daddy's in Duluth. I discovered him after he took over that spot. He's a great guy and makes great food. The difference in most any good restaurants is the ingredients. Forget the chain places when it comes to fresh ingredients. It makes a difference and VZ is always consistent with quality of food and service.
(5)Julie Y.
We ordered the brocco pizza, baked chicken roll, and the traditional calzone. My favorite (and also the table's favorite) was the traditional calzone. The mix of gooey mozzarella and creamy ricotta paired with the marinara was heavenly. The broccoli on the pizza looked like it was boiled, but all together it tasted great. The chicken roll was good, but it was definitely overshadowed by the calzone.
(4)Banks E.
It's OK and to me that's just not what you want out of a pizza place.
(2)Ming Han C.
It's been awhile since i've been here so things may have changed but from reading some other reviews I think not. After seeing all the rave reviews comparing this to Fellini's and the such I was excited. I'm a HUGE pizza lover. Everytime a new place in town opens up I try it hoping to satisfy my pizza fix. I can't say i'm some taste expert? But with the amount of pizza I eat both here and in NY (I go 2-3 times a year for work) I can say I atleast have a pretty good idea what a good pizza / slice is. And all I can really say about this place is... Where is the flavor in the crust?????? I've bought pies twice for takeout and brought a friend to eat here once too just to make sure I wasn't getting it wrong. But each time I was majorly disappointing with the lack of flavor in the crust. I know that's not the only thing that makes a pizza good but it was so lacking that's all my brain could tell me when I was eating it. Again.. maybe they've changed it by now.. or maybe the 3 times i've ordered from there were all flukes. But after reading the great reviews on here I was really expecting more.

Out for lunch this Saturday, we were trying to decide pizza or burgers when the Verra-Zanno sign caught our eye. So glad we decided to stop - I think this place has the best white pizza I've eaten OTP. After developing a love for Fellini's bianca pizza we've been trying to find a close approximation north of the perimeter. Until now, the flavor has fallen short. What a great surprise to discover Verra-Zanno's bianca. Garlicky goodness with just the right amount of ricotta amidst the mozzerella, on a thin and crispy crust, it was simple pizza perfection. We also tried slices with red sauce. Their deluxe meat was delicious, piled high with carnivorous delights. They use my favorite Italian sausage, the kind that is shaved thinly and spread liberally so major points there. And then we sampled the Greco, a salty amalgam of spinach, feta and olives. It rocked my taste buds. They have other things too, salads, pasta, subs and calzones. The place was really quiet at 1:30 on a Saturday, just us and two other tables. The servers were friendly and the atmosphere was more upscale - definitely a pizzeria versus a pie joint. There were both tables and booths - huge ones - so the place would be good for large groups or small dates. I was rather enjoying the Rat Pack background music too, well, until it became Michael Buble. Ick. Please bring back Dino! We ordered some of their zepolis for dessert as takeout - fried dough sprinkled with confectioners sugar. Sort of an Italian beignet. I thought they needed a little something extra (more sugar!) so when we got home, I popped strawberry jam in the microwave for a dipping sauce and then...mmmmm. So, the pizza overall: Sauce - 4 out of 5 yums - Not too acidic with a rich vegetable flavor and good herbs. Crust - 2 out of 5 yums - it was basically tasteless, a shingle to hold the toppings but ohhh... ...THE TOPPINGS! - 6 out of 5 yums - they were amazing and certainly made up for any other shortcomings. Oh and that bianca...we had some left over and it made one hell of a late night snack, cold, right out of the fridge :)
(3)Tyler P.
The pizza is pretty good but their dinners are where its at. Great presentation and large proportions make it a winner. The same goes for the waitresses...
(4)D L.
Went for dinner. Had deluxe bianca pizza, 14" split between two people. Crust was slightly buttery and made me want to eat more whereas the actual pizza taste.... If I go again, I will order something else, something with red sauce. Mediterranean salad. Huge salad. Good lettuce (hate it when you brown and pink-tinged pieces). Was greeted. People behind the counter were friendly. Actual server was... better service was desired. She only stopped by our table to drop off the lukewarm pizza.
(3)Jason H.
My wife and 5 year old son at here last night and had pizza, salad and the garlic pizza knots. The food was excellent. The ingredients on the pizza was fresh, the salad was crisp and the dressing was homemade and the garlic knots were delicious! The service was prompt and very friendly and we will definitely be back.
(5)Chef Invisible T.
Now this is the NY style pizza I have been looking for! The crust is deliciously thin with the right amount of cheese, and the sauce is not to shabby either. The cheese pizza is the perfect flavor for those that like to add parm or red pepper flakes. I can tell these guys are using a higher quality whole milk mozzarella because of the lack of that fake sodium mystery cheese taste that you find at most wanna be places. .The crust is cooked to a perfect dark crispy brown and the pure aroma of this pie almost made me drive off into one of those cow pastures in deep suburbia while I was fighting to get a slice out of the back seat. I also tried the meatball sub which was good and better than most. The pasta salad side was also ok, but this spot is a can't miss for their well priced great pizzas. John's Creek locals are very lucky to have such a clean tasty pizza joint that other Atlanta folk are dying for. Not over priced and I saw the owner working the ovens!
(4)Nancy M.
Attractive, immaculate, with personable host and staff. Food is very good, somethings better than others, but always hot and fresh. My personal favorite is the Antipasto salad....huge and packed with lots of meat and cheese. Plenty to share and more than enough for one hungry person's dinner. They don't push their desserts but you must try the homemade cannoli. One of the best in town. Enjoy.
(4)Chandler C.
Awesome sausage roll and chicken roll! If you have never tried one, they are like strombolli...a must try...delicious, and a huge portion for lunch or dinner. And the red sauce is perfect...delicately seasoned simply with fresh basil, olive oil, and a hint of garlic. Ingredients are high quality. Friendly service, very clean, and priced fairly.
(4)Chloe M.
Tuesdays is lasagna day at VZ -- they make it fresh and they only make it once a week. Their lasagna is so delicious: the sauce is fantastic and the pasta is perfect. Pizzas are stellar here. The crust and sauce are just so perfect. But it doesn't stop there; the calzones, strombolis, hero sandwiches and even the salads are all great. Be sure to try the pizza knots for appetizers next time you stop by.
(5)Lyndsay K.
Well....ummm....the bread was good? I don't even mean gooood, just good. And I love bread so much that you'd have to really do something stupid to screw it up for me. The one complaint on said bread was that it was a huge hamburger roll shaped bun thing. Not really appropriate for an Italian restaurant, but I guess that explains the rest. Our server was ok...or was it servers? I think we had 2 different people - one with a personality and one without. The latter annoyed the crap out of me. Didn't smile once. I went for lunch, as it's across from my office, and the place was crowded, suuuper loud and the table we were seated at was so long and narrow that I could barely talk to the person with me. We requested to be moved to the patio to enjoy the gorgeous fall day and actually hear each other. My lunch consisted of the big hamburger bread, about 4 pounds of pasta and 3 tablespoons of marinara sauce. It was quite pathetic, really. The amount of sauce MAY have been ok if they'd given me only a pound of pasta. Italian sausage was ok...but cut up in bite-sized pieces and appeared to be fried. I don't know what else to say...was an expensive disappointment for lunch. I'd much rather have Panera. Oh yeah, many people were eating pizza and that looked pretty ok. Maybe I should have tried it. Now I'm not sure I even want to. I do see now that this place is listed in the pizza category, not Italian...wish I'd read these reviews before the place was ruined for me. Ooopsies.
(2)Ben O.
Decent pizza; what really stands out is the penne broccoli, which is studded with sundried tomatoes in a tomato cream sauce (mostly red, but you can't fail to notice the creaminess) and, with the included salad and two hamburger-bun-sized rolls, is enough for two. I don't know whether I'm just an ITP snob, or whether Vesuvius and Zucca really do serve much better New York-style pizza, but I wasn't impressed with our 16" pie with fresh spinach. Some slices had only three shreds of green on them, and even the more spinach-laden parts were just average. That's okay, though. Just don't order pizza -- I'm guessing their other pastas are equally delicious -- and you'll really enjoy Verra-Zanno.

(5)Joanna R.

(2)Jina H.
There are a lot of pizza restaurants around but it was hard finding a good one. So when we found this place we were hooked. It's a family favorite. We usually get their pizza and the Greek salad but hear great things about the other items on their menu.
(4)Mickey D.
Come here all the time with my family! We're all italian and this is good italian food for around here! Great service as well!
(5)C M.
(4)Kathy B.
They say they are a New York pizzeria-- not even close I ordered a chicken parmigiana hero but don't toast the bread- so I went to pick it up they told me they did it now but if I ordered it when they were busy they couldn't make it like that -- I said fine next time I'll go to Carmine's -- that's the last time I'll go there
(1)Sonni W.
(5)Jeff W.
Cheers !

(5)E S.
(1)Matthew D.

And close.

Been there, done that...was not impressed. But of course, your mileage may vary!

Great salad and pizza! Friendly folks. Will be back!

The pizza is great. love the sauce. Also a very good eggplant parm. Always good service and the owner is alway there. Been a customer for about 7 years never had a bad meal. Best pizza in Atlanta

My son and I tried a small pizza, a calzone and chicken parm dinner between us and all were excellent. The parm came with a salad and a side of pasta which were both above average. The portion were of a good size and we boxed up some of the pizza and calzone.

(5)Banks E.
It's OK and to me that's just not what you want out of a pizza place.
(2)Tyler P.
The pizza is pretty good but their dinners are where its at. Great presentation and large proportions make it a winner. The same goes for the waitresses...
(4)Russ M.

Ooopsies.

(4)Julie Y.

The closest Italian salad (to the one I had in Lake Como and Naples) I had in the States.

(5)Bari C.
(5)Melissa R.
I am not big on pizza but I am hooked on this! I always get takeout: A large cheese and sliced sausage, and an antipasto salad. Can't go wrong!
